About this card

Foundation is the Boston-assembled maker of the Passport Bitcoin-only hardware wallet and the Envoy companion app. The Passport line covers Passport Core (the Batch-2 device shipping today, ~$259) and Passport Prime (the next-gen device with sealed enclosure and dedicated security IC). The store at foundation.xyz also carries Magic Backup stainless-steel plate kits, leather sleeves, USB-C cables, microSD cards, and replacement covers — everything the device needs to live a 10+ year self-custody life.

This card delivers a store credit code redeemable at checkout on foundation.xyz. The credit applies the same as a card payment — pick your hardware, paste the code, ship it. The $100 floor lines up with the cheapest accessory bundle; $250 covers a Passport Core; $500 stacks two Cores plus a Magic Backup plate; $1000 covers a 2-of-3 multisig setup with three devices geographically separated. Remainder stays on the account as wallet credit for future accessory orders. Single global SKU — Foundation ships worldwide from Boston, no regional split.

Why Bitcoin-only matters: by compiling only the Bitcoin code paths into firmware, Passport drops the entire altcoin parser surface, the WalletConnect surface, the dApp-signing surface, and every CVE that ships with multi-chain complexity. Firmware is open-source on GitHub under the foundation-devices org with reproducible builds — anyone can audit, anyone can verify. The bootloader verifies signed firmware on each boot. There is no opaque secure-element vendor in the trust path; Foundation publishes the BOM and the security model end-to-end. Magic Backup splits the seed into an encrypted SD-card payload + a 6-word stainless-steel plate, so a single physical compromise never moves funds.

Paying for the device that holds your bitcoin with bitcoin itself is the obvious move. A credit-card purchase writes "I now self-custody" onto a bank statement that is one breach or subpoena away from public — and inverts the entire point. BTC, XMR, ETH, USDT and 9 other coins route through any-coin checkout that settles on chain. We email the redemption code in about 11 minutes after one network confirmation — no name, no ID, no card on file, just an email for delivery. Foundation does not require KYC at the store either; the card-plus-checkout combo keeps the entire purchase off any banking trail. We pass the crypto-rail savings back as up to 2 % off the listed shop price.

What you get

  • A claim code, delivered by email
  • A private order page (14-day access)
  • Re-issue or full refund if the code fails
  • No Foundation login or ID required

How to redeem

Quick steps to redeem your Foundation code.

  1. Open foundation.xyz and add your hardware to the cart — Passport Core, Passport Prime, Magic Backup plates, accessories, whatever you need.
  2. Proceed to checkout and enter your shipping address.
  3. On the payment step, look for the "Gift card / store credit" field (or "Discount / credit code" depending on storefront state).
  4. Paste the redemption code from the delivery email and apply.
  5. The credit balance applies against the order total; pay any remainder with another coin via the same checkout, or leave the unused balance as wallet credit for the next order.

Asked & answered

Specifics for Foundation cards. For general crypto-payment questions, see the site FAQ.

What can I actually buy with this on foundation.xyz?

Anything in the Foundation store. The flagship purchase is the Passport Bitcoin-only hardware wallet (Passport Core / Batch 2 retails around $259; Passport Prime sits higher on the price ladder). The catalogue also covers the Magic Backup stainless-steel seed-plate kit, leather sleeves, USB-C cables, microSD cards, replacement covers, and Envoy companion-app merch. Store credit applies the same as a card payment at checkout — no separate redemption portal.

Why is Passport "Bitcoin-only" and not multi-coin?

Foundation's thesis is that more coins = more attack surface. By compiling only the Bitcoin code paths into the Passport firmware, the device drops the entire ETH/Solana/EVM/altcoin parser surface, the WalletConnect surface, the dApp-signing surface, and every CVE that ships with that complexity. The result is a wallet auditable end-to-end by a small team, with reproducible builds anyone can verify on GitHub. If you only hold Bitcoin, this is the design that gives up the least.

How does Magic Backup work — is it different from a regular seed phrase?

Magic Backup is Foundation's name for an encrypted backup of your seed written to a microSD card, locked by a 6-word "backup password" that lives separately on a stainless-steel plate. To restore you need the SD and the 6 words — neither alone reveals the seed. It coexists with traditional 12/24-word BIP39 backup; Foundation ships steel plates for both. The point is that you can stash the SD card with your bank / your in-laws / anywhere physically secure and the words separately, and a single compromise doesn't move funds.

Why pay in crypto for a hardware wallet — isn't that a chicken-and-egg?

It is the entire point. Buying a self-custody device with a credit card writes "I now have crypto" onto your bank statement — every breach, subpoena, or future tax-authority correlation lights you up regardless of how careful you are downstream. Paying for Passport in Bitcoin, Monero or stablecoin closes that loop: the device, the seed, the funds, and the purchase trail all stay on chain. We email the redemption code to a delivery address — no KYC, no card on file, no name attached to the hardware order.

Can I buy multiple Passports on a single card?

Yes. A $500 card stacks against two Passport Cores (and accessories on top). The $1000 denomination is sized for households running multisig — typical 2-of-3 setups buy three devices, geographically separated, so any single device loss never moves funds. Foundation's store treats the credit like any other tender and applies the full balance at checkout; remainder stays on the account as wallet credit for future accessory orders.

Which coins do you accept and how fast does the code arrive?

BTC, XMR, ETH, USDT (TRC-20 / ERC-20 / SOL), LTC, BCH, SOL, DOGE, DASH, TRX, BNB — 13 networks. Pick one at checkout and we surface a fixed-rate any-coin invoice that settles on chain (the rail itself converts to BTC / XMR receive on our side). Median delivery is around 11 minutes from one network confirmation; the redemption code is emailed automatically the moment the deposit confirms.

Is Foundation actually US-made — what does that mean for supply chain?

Yes. Passport is assembled in Boston, which is unusual for hardware wallets (most are Asia-assembled and you trust the contract manufacturer not to swap parts). The bill of materials is published, the firmware is open-source on GitHub under the foundation-devices org with reproducible builds, and the bootloader verifies signed firmware before each boot. There is no secure element vendor that can't be audited — by design Foundation avoids the closed-source secure-element path some competitors take.

What is the refund policy if my code fails or the device arrives DOA?

On our side: if the redemption code itself fails to apply on foundation.xyz (duplicate, propagation glitch, store-side error), open your order page within 14 days and we re-issue the code or refund in the original coin. Once the code applies and the order ships, returns and DOA replacements are handled by Foundation directly under their published warranty (1 year on hardware, lifetime on the bootloader-verified firmware update path). Bearer code — transferable until pasted on foundation.xyz, after which it locks to the redeeming account.
