About this card

Hotels.com is the Expedia Group hotel-booking platform — founded in 1991 as Hotel Reservations Network, acquired by Expedia in 2001, and today aggregating roughly 700,000 properties in 200+ countries. The Hotels.com gift card adds balance to your booking checkout on the country store matching the card. Since 2023, the platform runs the unified One Key loyalty program: members earn OneKeyCash on qualifying spend, banked across Hotels.com, Expedia, and Vrbo and redeemable on any of the three. (One Key replaced the legacy "Hotels.com Rewards" 1-night-free-per-10-booked scheme.)

The catalogue covers chain hotels (Marriott, Hilton, IHG, Accor, Hyatt, Wyndham, Choice), boutique & independent properties, hostels, resorts, serviced apartments, and villas, in every market Expedia Group serves. Bookings include free cancellation rates, last-minute deals, and member prices for One Key sign-ins. Hotels.com also sells flight + hotel packages at hotels.com/packages, and your gift card balance can pay the hotel portion of those packages.

Cards are region-locked to the country store: a US card redeems only on hotels.com (US store), a UK card only on hotels.com/en-gb, a German card only on hotels.com/en-de, and so on for the 7 markets we sell — US, UK, DE, FR, CA, AU, JP. A card from one region cannot redeem in another. Pick the recipient's country carefully. This is also why Hotels.com cards are not interchangeable with Hotelgift, Booking.com, or Expedia.com gift cards — those are separate products on different rails.

Redemption is straightforward: sign in (or check out as a guest), search and pick a hotel, and enter the 16-digit code + PIN at the payment step. Partial redemption is supported — any leftover balance stays on the same code for future bookings on the same country store. You will never share a Hotels.com login or any government ID with us. Email is the only thing we collect, and only to deliver the claim code, in about 11 minutes after your transaction confirms. Crypto privacy angle: no destinations show up on a credit-card statement, no hotel-platform login is tied to a bank account, and no booking history attaches to your card-issuer profile.

What you get

  • A claim code, delivered by email
  • A private order page (14-day access)
  • Re-issue or full refund if the code fails
  • No Hotels.com login or ID required

How to redeem

Same flow on every Hotels.com store — only the URL changes per region.

  1. Open the matching Hotels.com country store printed on your order (e.g. hotels.com for US, hotels.com/en-gb for UK).
  2. Sign in or continue as a guest, then search and pick your stay.
  3. At the payment step, choose "Redeem a gift card".
  4. Enter the 16-digit code and PIN from the delivery email.
  5. The balance applies to the booking total — any leftover remains on the same card for future bookings.

Region terms

Specific to United States

United States · USD
Redeems on the Hotels.com US store at hotels.com. No expiry under US federal gift-card law. Earns OneKeyCash on the qualifying booking spend.
Universal terms
  • Region-locked to the issuing country store. A card for one region cannot redeem in another.
  • Validity: US — no expiry under federal gift-card law. UK / DE / FR — 24 months minimum from issue. CA / AU — 5 years from issue. JP — see local terms (typically 5 years).
  • Non-refundable once redeemed onto a booking. Balance is reusable across multiple bookings within the validity window.
  • Partial redemption supported — leftover balance stays on the same 16-digit code.
  • Bearer instrument: whoever holds the code can redeem it. Treat the email like cash.
  • If the code fails to redeem, open your order page within 14 days — we re-issue or refund in your original coin.
  • Refunds from cancelled or operator-changed bookings credit back to the gift card balance, never to crypto.

Asked & answered

Specifics for Hotels.com cards. For general crypto-payment questions, see the site FAQ.

Is this Hotels.com or Hotelgift / Booking.com / Expedia?

This is Hotels.com — the Expedia Group hotel-booking platform that runs hotels.com and its country stores (hotels.com/en-gb, hotels.com/en-de, etc). It is not the same product as Hotelgift (Gift IT B.V., a third-party aggregator that sells hotel-booking gift cards redeemable at its own portal), nor Booking.com, nor Expedia.com — Hotelgift, Booking.com and Expedia.com all run their own separate gift-card programs sold elsewhere on this site or by other vendors. Pick this product only if the recipient will redeem on hotels.com itself.

Which Hotels.com store does this card work on?

Whichever country store matches the variant you buy. A US card redeems only on hotels.com (the US store). A UK card redeems only on hotels.com/en-gb. A German card on hotels.com/en-de, French on hotels.com/en-fr, Canadian on hotels.com/en-ca, Australian on hotels.com/en-au, Japanese on hotels.com/en-jp. The store URL is shown on each variant chip and again on your order confirmation.

Can I use a US card on hotels.com/en-gb?

No. Hotels.com gift cards are region-locked: the issuing country's store is the only store that will accept the code. Pick the recipient's country carefully before checkout. If you bought the wrong region, open your order page within 14 days — we'll refund in the original coin so you can re-purchase the correct one. Codes that have already been redeemed cannot be refunded.

Can I earn One Key OneKeyCash when I pay with this card?

Yes. One Key is the unified Expedia Group loyalty program (launched 2023, replacing the old Hotels.com Rewards "1 night free per 10 booked" scheme). Members earn OneKeyCash on the qualifying booking spend regardless of whether you pay with a credit card, gift card, or a mix. OneKeyCash banks across Hotels.com, Expedia, and Vrbo and can be applied to future bookings on any of the three. Enrolment is free at hotels.com/onekey.

Can I split the gift card across multiple bookings?

Yes — Hotels.com supports partial redemption. Apply the card at checkout, the booking total deducts from the card balance, and any remaining balance stays on the same 16-digit code for future bookings on the same country store. You can also stack multiple Hotels.com gift cards on a single booking.

What if my booked hotel cancels — does my gift balance come back?

For refundable rates and operator-cancelled bookings, refunds credit back to the original payment method. When that method was a Hotels.com gift card, the refunded amount returns to the gift card balance (same 16-digit code), available for a future booking. Non-refundable rates follow their own cancellation terms — read the rate rules before booking. Refunds never go back to crypto.

What if my code doesn't work?

Open your order page (link in the email) within 14 days. We re-issue a fresh code or refund in your original coin — no forms, no proof. Most failure cases trace to a typo when entering the code, or to the recipient trying to redeem on the wrong country store (e.g. a US card on hotels.com/en-gb). Double-check the store URL printed on your order matches the one you're booking from.

Why pay for a hotel gift in crypto?

Three reasons: privacy (your destinations don't show up on a credit-card statement, no booking history attached to a bank account or hotel-platform login funded by your bank), reach (works for travellers without a Hotels.com-supported card type in their country), and price (we pass crypto-rail savings back as up to 1.5 % off retail). Codes land in your inbox in about 11 minutes after the transaction confirms.
