FlixTrain is the rail arm of Flix SE, the Munich-headquartered transport group that owns FlixBus and Greyhound. Launched in 2018 as a private competitor to Deutsche Bahn on the German long-distance market, FlixTrain expanded into Sweden in 2024 by acquiring and rebranding Snälltåget. The result is two distinct intercity rail networks running under one green brand: the German mainline covering Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Cologne, Stuttgart, Munich and seasonal routes to Sylt and Salzburg; and the Swedish network serving Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö and the Stockholm–Berlin night train.
A FlixTrain voucher is a single alphanumeric code redeemable at checkout on flixtrain.com or in the Flix app. Search the route, pick your seats, expand the "I have a voucher" field on the payment page, paste the code, confirm. The amount is deducted from your trip total — and unlike most rail vouchers in Europe, any unused balance stays attached to the code, so a €200 voucher used on a €72 trip leaves €128 on the same code for a future booking. Up to three vouchers can be combined in a single checkout.
Flix vouchers are currency-locked. The German booking flow is denominated in EUR; the Swedish booking flow is denominated in SEK. The two cannot be mixed — an EUR voucher will not redeem on a Swedish route. Pick the currency that matches the trip you are about to buy: EUR if you are riding within Germany or to Sylt / Salzburg, SEK if you are booking Stockholm to Göteborg, Stockholm to Malmö, or the Stockholm–Berlin night service.
Validity is three years from issue — significantly longer than the 12-month standard at DB, ÖBB or SNCF — and the voucher works the same way the bus version does: stacks with promo codes, refunds back to the voucher balance on cancelled trips, applies to bookings of up to nine passengers in one go. FlixTrain trains are fully electric (the German mainline runs on the German rail grid; the Swedish network on the Swedish grid), making the trip dramatically lower-CO₂ than the equivalent flight on routes like Berlin–Munich or Stockholm–Göteborg. We email the code in about 11 minutes after your crypto transaction confirms; we never collect KYC.
One redemption flow regardless of which currency variant you pick.
Voucher codes are partially redeemable — leftover balance stays on the same code until the 3-year expiry.
